Group Show

I have been working hard on a group exhibition I am showing in. Blindspot opens 03/10/10 at 7pm and the following is my artist statement for the show along with some of the works.

Artist Statement:

Laura McClintock is a photographic artist interested in the textures, forms, colours and light of nature. Her experimentation with different film and camera types often leaves her work in a saturation of colour, producing a dream-like quality. Constantly inspired by what she sees, she seeks to “arrest all the beauty that comes before her” often through the tracings of human form scattered throughout the landscape.

The works in this exhibition focuses on reframing reality and the affect the photo has on how we view our surrounds. Laura’s work offers more than a simple snapshot, using her camera as a visual sketchpad to her world. Her aim is for her audience to discover the ‘unseen’ or ‘blind spots’ in the landscapes of her work.

Description of works:

“Removing the Veil” 2010
veil:
- “a membrane that covers the immature mushroom of many fungi and breaks apart as the mushroom expands, leaving distinctive remnants on the cap, stalk, or stalk base”
- “to hide the real nature of”
